from Sue McCarthy
Editor of Southern Country magazine
The NO HAT album was released by UK label Solent Records with National + Ireland Distribution by NOVA/Pinnacle in June 2003. It was supported by display advertising in all the main Country magazines in the attempt to break the mould of British Country music being just a gig-sales level activity. The CD is unusual for a British Country album in that 10 out of the 12 tracks are originals, written or co-written by Luke.
The reaction to the album and all the tracks individually promoted via Stuart Cameron's Hot Disc compilations, over the year has been fantastic, not only in the UK but right across Europe. Reaction sheets received back show 80% of DJ's rating Luke's work very good to excellent and reporting wide spread and continuing airplay. Two songs from the album ONE MORE BAR and I AIN'T GOT NO HAT reached the top 5 of the prestigious EMS DJ Chart during the year with another track making the Top 30.
If you are one of those who has seen Luke perform live you will know that the quality of the album is carried through to the stage, whether Luke is singing with backing tracks in a small club or in full band mode such as at last year's Radio Awards ceremony.
This project is a partnership effort between Luke and John Waterman , owner of Solent Records, sharing the promotional work and investment. In this, Luke shows that not only is he a great writer and performer but also has the professional attitude and tenacity to succeed and break out to the next level. The next phase in promoting Luke was to include the track Everybody's Different on Colonel Buster Doss's Stardust Compilation, distributed to DJ's across the world in January 2004, to introduce Luke to a larger list of US/ Australian stations as well as the UK and Europe who are already convinced.
We have been rewarded with great reviews and support from the Country print and local radio media and hope that these nominations and awards will gain the attention of the national media channels which is so important to establishing real credibility with the mainstream audience. This would help translate the widespread respect for Luke's work into sales which is the only thing at the end of the day the industry and media take notice of. We have the infrastructure in place, Luke just needs that greater profile to grow into another British Country star.
Please introduce Luke and his excellent music to your audience.
The songs are published and promoted by Solent Songs and the tracks can be licensed from Solent Records The No Hat Album was released in the UK/Ireland on Solent Records on June 16th 2003 with full national distribution by NOVA / Pinnacle, making it available through all independent and chain store outlets. This channel has now been closed but the album is still available though the websites below.
Solent Records/Songs is looking for cover opportunites for these songs, sub-publishing in other territories, licensing outlets for the recordings worldwide and top class booking agents to develop his full potential.
